Paul Simon (born October 13, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, known for his success beginning in 1965 as part of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, with musical partner Art Garfunkel. Simon wrote most of the pair’s songs, including three that reached number one on the US singles charts, “The Sounds of Silence”, “Mrs. Robinson”, and “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.[1] In 1970, at the height of their popularity, the duo split, and Simon began a successful solo career, recording three highly-acclaimed albums over the next five years.[2] In 1986 he released Graceland, an album inspired by South African township music that helped fuel the anti-apartheid movement.[3] Besides music, Simon directed and starred in the film One Trick Pony in 1980 and co-wrote the Broadway musical The Capeman in 1998.

Art Garfunkel’s love for singing “Came in the first grade. when we were lined up in size order, and after everyone else had left, I’d stay behind and enjoy the Echo sound of the classroom tiles and sing “Unchained Melody” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, learning the love this goose-bumps songs from the tender age of five.” Later, Garfunkel’s father bought him a wire recorder and from then on, Grafunkel spent his afternoons singing, recording and playing it back, so he could listen for flaws and learn how to improve.

He met his future singing partner, Paul Simon, in the sixth grade – PS 164, Queens, when they were both cast in the Elementary School Graduation Play, Alice In Wonderland (Garfunkel was The Cheshire Cat, Simon was The White Rabbit). At school, Garfunkel was shy, but was able to make friends due to his singing voice. He also had several girlfriends during his teens thanks to his voice, a sweet demeanor and a sense of humor. It has been said by Garfunkel that Simon first became interested in singing after hearing Garfunkel sing a rendition of Nat King Cole’s “Too Young” in a school talent show.

Between 1956 and 1962, the two had performed together as Tom & Jerry. Garfunkel (“Tom Graph”) chose his nickname because he liked to track, or “graph” hits, on the pop charts. He also released some singles as a solo artist, under the name Artie Garr (A Shortened version of Garfunkel). In interviews, Garfunkel has noted himself how these early singles distingshed him as a Folk Styled Crooner,[citation needed] with songs like “Beat World” and “A Soldier And A Song” (Both released 1959).

Dave and his band will launch their 2010 summer tour with a pair of Memorial Day Weekend shows in Connecticut and then stay out on the road through mid-September.

The three-month-plus excursion starts off May 28 and 29 in Hartford, CT, and will entertain 40 cities in all before finishing on Sept. 15 in St. Paul, MN. Highlights include two July nights (7/16 and 7/17) at Citi Field in New York City, and an Aug. 23 appearance at Los Angeles’ historic Hollywood Bowl. Dates are at right.

A variety of opening acts will join the tour at various stages, including Gov’t Mule, Ben Harper, Brett Dennen, The Felice Brothers and others.

“Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King,” which surfaced last summer, marks the band’s first studio set since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer. Guitarist Tim Reynolds returned to the studio with the band for the record–his first recording with DMB since 1998’s “Before These Crowded Streets.”

The set debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in early June, moving about 424,000 copies during its first week on store shelves to make the album the band’s fifth consecutive studio set to open with first week sales of at least 400,000 copies.

The album is up for two awards–Album of the Year and Best Rock Album–at this weekend’s 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The group will also perform on the show’s broadcast, which will air Jan. 31 on CBS.

Celine Dion said, “With the orchestra and the band we’re going to be able to perform our sings like never before.” She added, “It’s going to be a very beautiful show, and I think we’ll be raising the bar higher than we’ve ever done before.

Celine Dion, at age 41, is famous for her hits “My Heart Will Go On” and “The Power of Love.” Her record label, Columbia, reports she has sold more than 200 million albums.

Between March 2003 and December 2007, Celine Dion performed her New Day concert in Las Vegas 717 times, taking in more than $400 million dollars and being seen by nearly three million people at the live concerts.

The shows production is designed to allow the audience to see Billy Joel and Elton John’s performance from any location within the arena. The show incorporates full 360 degree, state-of-the-art sound and video.”

Joel and John open their “Face 2 Face” concerts with a series of duets, playing twin pianos and trading vocals. Each artist then performs a set with his own band.

A grand finale brings the two superstars and their supporting musicians back together for a closing encore. This includes some of both star’s greatest hits along with an unpredictable selection of rock ‘n’ roll classics.
